OpenAI: GPT-4 Turbo Preview

gpt-4-turbo-preview was never a model of its own at OpenAI. It was an alias, and OpenAI's deprecations page, fetched 2026-09-24, says what it pointed at and when that ended. Its entry for the 2025-09-26 legacy-snapshot notice lists gpt-4-0125-preview "(including gpt-4-turbo-preview and gpt-4-turbo-preview-completions, which point to this snapshot)". It gives the shutdown date as March 26, 2026 and names gpt-5 or gpt-4.1* as the recommended replacement. OpenAI's model page still marks the gpt-4-0125-preview snapshot "Deprecated".

OpenRouter kept listing the slug for almost six months after that. The openai/gpt-4-turbo-preview row was in the 2026-09-14 catalog snapshot as active, with no expiration date, and was gone by 2026-09-21. On 2026-09-24 the catalog still has no such row. The per-model endpoints record still returns the model's name and description, but its endpoints list is empty, so nothing on OpenRouter routes the slug any more. OpenRouter gives no reason and no removal date. Whether it dropped the row because of the March shutdown, or only noticed six months later, is not something either source says.

This is not a rename. The catalog still lists openai/gpt-4-turbo, but OpenAI treats that as a separate snapshot, gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09. The same deprecations page schedules it to shut down on October 23, 2026, with gpt-5.6-sol as the substitute.

The catalog last read this row as active. The retired badge here follows OpenAI's shutdown date instead, because OpenRouter's listing says how the router presented the slug, not whether OpenAI still served it. The feeds: binding stays in place. If the slug ever comes back as a catalog row, it binds straight back to this entry, and the last listing is pinned in the withdrawal record under data/vanished/answered/.
