Mistral: Devstral 2 2512

Mistral scheduled Devstral 2 (devstral-2512) to leave its API on 31 July 2026. The date comes from one place: the table under "Deprecated & retired models" on the vendor's models index, whose columns are Model, Version, API, Deprecation, Retirement and Alternative. The row reads devstral-2512, 5/22/2026, 7/31/2026, Mistral Medium 3.5.

Mistral's other pages are less definite. The model's own page still carries a Deprecated badge rather than a Retired one. It says "This model is deprecated. Use Mistral Medium 3.5 for new integrations," and it shows a deprecation date of 5/22/2026 but no retirement date. The lifecycle policy defines Deprecated as "Retirement announced. Still accessible until the retirement date" and Retired as "No longer accessible." Read together, the index says the retirement date has passed and the model page has not been updated to match. This entry did not call Mistral's API, so whether requests to devstral-2512 are actually refused is unverified. The status above is retired on the strength of the index date and the OpenRouter delisting below. All three Mistral pages were checked on 2026-09-24.

Whatever the state of the API model, the open weights remain up. The Hugging Face repository mistralai/Devstral-2-123B-Instruct-2512 is still public, ungated and not disabled according to the Hub API, and was last modified on 15 July 2026 (checked 2026-09-24). Mistral's model page gives the licence as Modified MIT.

OpenRouter was still listing mistralai/devstral-2512 in its 2026-09-21 catalog snapshot, 52 days after the retirement date in Mistral's index. That is the last snapshot the row appears in; it is missing from the 2026-09-23 one. On 2026-09-24 the live catalog had no row with Devstral in its id, canonical slug or Hugging Face id. The model's endpoints record still returned the model's metadata, but its endpoints list was empty. So the router no longer serves the slug. No mistralai/ row was added to the catalog between the two snapshots. So no new mistralai/ row appeared alongside the removal, though a replacement under some other prefix is not ruled out by that comparison. It also does not show whether the model was renamed or replaced anywhere else. OpenRouter gives no reason for the removal and no date for it. Neither source says whether the delisting followed from Mistral's scheduled retirement, although the timing fits.

The bound facts above show the row's last-known values from the 2026-09-21 snapshot. They are not current prices. The feeds: binding stays, so if OpenRouter ever lists the row again it will bind straight back to this entry. Mistral's suggested replacement is covered separately as Mistral: Mistral Medium 3.5.
