Google: Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview 05-06
The google/gemini-2.5-pro-preview-05-06 row left the OpenRouter catalog in the
2026-09-21 fetch, seven days after its last listing. On 2026-09-14 it was still
there: active, with no expiry date, and the catalog gives no reason for the
removal. The model's own end is not the catalog's to date, and the vendor's
record is the older and more specific one. Google's
deprecations table, fetched
2026-09-21, gives gemini-2.5-pro-preview-05-06 a release date of May 6, 2025
and a shutdown date of December 2, 2025, and names gemini-3.1-pro-preview as
the recommended replacement. The stable gemini-2.5-pro beside it in the same
table carries no shutdown date at all.
The sequence is not a rename. Google's
changelog, fetched
2026-09-21, has the steps between: the gemini-2.5-pro-preview-06-05 revision
arrived on June 5, 2025; on June 26, 2025 "The preview models
gemini-2.5-pro-preview-05-06 and gemini-2.5-pro-preview-03-25 are now
redirecting to the latest stable version gemini-2.5-pro"; and on November 4,
2025 came the "Deprecation announcement: The following models will be shut
down:", whose December 2nd list carries this id alongside the other two
previews. The id was folded onto the stable model and then shut down, and the
replacement Google's table names is a later generation, not another name for
this checkpoint.
OpenRouter's records now fold the slug the same way. Fetched 2026-09-21,
openrouter.ai/google/gemini-2.5-pro-preview-05-06
answers HTTP 308 to /google/gemini-2.5-pro, and
…/api/v1/models/google/gemini-2.5-pro-preview-05-06/endpoints
returns that stable row's record — "id":"google/gemini-2.5-pro", endpoints
and all — rather than a record of this row's own. That is not the delisting
signature this wiki has recorded for other withdrawn rows, where the row's
record survives with an empty endpoint list: there is no separate record here
left to survive. The catalog also still lists the 06-05 checkpoint as
google/gemini-2.5-pro-preview, under the same December 2 vendor shutdown
date, so a live row on this router is not evidence that the vendor still
serves the id.
The catalog last read this row active, and the disagreement is which signal
counts. OpenRouter serves no status field of its own; the status the catalog
shows is derived from expiration_date — absent reads active — and this row
never carried one. The retired badge here follows Google's own shutdown
date. The feeds: binding stays: if google/gemini-2.5-pro-preview-05-06 is
ever a catalog row again it binds straight back to this entry, and the row's
last listing remains pinned in the withdrawal record under
data/vanished/answered/. The stable model the id was folded onto is carried
as Google: Gemini 2.5 Pro; the 06-05 checkpoint is Google: Gemini 2.5 Pro
Preview 06-05.
